LG CLOi home robot voice recognition repeatedly fails on stage
LG's CLOi personal assistant robot repeatedly failed on stage in what experts said was a 'disastrous' debut at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show. CLOi was intended to showcase the company's artificial intelligence capabilities by responding to voice commands and managing smart home appliances d uring a CES 2018 keynote demonstration. Initially, CLOi successfully greeted LG's vice president of marketing, David VanderWaal, and provided him with his daily schedule. However, as the demonstration progressed, the robot failed to respond to several subsequent commands, including enquiries about laundry status and recipe suggestions. VanderWaal attempted to lighten the mood with humour, saying, "Even robots have bad days," but the repeated failures simply drew laughter from the audience. The incident raised questions about the reliability and robustness of LG's ThinQ voice recognition system, and was seen to have damaged LG's reputation.
