Racist' Uber Eats facial ID check gets Pa Edrissa Manjang fired
False mismatches by Uber Eats' 'racist' facial identification system resulted in the wrongful dismissal of delivery driver Pa Edrissa Manjang . Pa Edrissa Manjang, who is Black, claimed that the selfies he had to submit daily mistook him for someone else multiple times, and that the system was 'racist'. Manjang also argued that a 'plethora of research' showed the software 'places ethnic minority groups at a disadvantage in that false positive and false negative results are greater in individuals from ethnic minority groups.' He went to allege that he had been increasingly targeted for heightened and excessive facial recognition verification checks, amounting to racial harassment.
