Amnesty fake Colombia national strike images
Amnesty's use of AI-generated images to promote the second anniversary of public protests against police brutality in Colombia rebounded against the rights group. The human rights organisation shared AI-created images depicting scenes from Colombia's 2021 protests, including one showing a woman being dragged by police, as a way of highlighting police violence. However, photographers and human rights advocates and commentators complained that Amnesty's use of fake footage devalues to work of real photographers, makes it more difficult to distinguish between real and fake, and u ndermines Amnesty's reputation for truth-telling. They also pointed out inaccuracies, such as the incorrect order of colors in the Colombian flag and unrealistic portrayals of individuals. Marked with the words 'Illustrations produced by artificial intelligence', the images were meant to protect protestors from state retribution, Amnesty argued.
