UK parliamentarian calls for Deepsukebe nudifier ban

A UK member of parliament called for a ban on non-consensual "deepfake" pornographic images and the use of nudification software, which manipulates images to create nude representations without consent. Maria Miller MP called for a ban on DeepSukebe, voicing her concern that the service and its technology could be used to create non-consensual and explicit images of women, and that it could contribute to a culture of objectification, harassment and exploitation of women. Miller also not ed that th ese kinds of images are difficult to remove once shared online. DeepSukebe uses deep learning algorithms to remove clothing from images, creating the illusion that the person in the image is naked. The technology has been widely criticised for its potential to be used for malicious purposes, such as creating revenge porn or harassing women online. An Olympic athlete was said to be amongst those who users claim to have nudified using the technology, according to the BBC . Miller's intervention highlighted the perceived inadequacy of UK law to cover deepfakes and nudified images, which she argued represent a continuation of offline sexual violence in the digital realm.
