The proposed class action alleges that Motorola Solutions' automated license plate reader technology collected vehicle-location information in the Merced, California area, including near the University of California, Merced. It also alleges that license plate reader data collected in California was improperly shared with federal and out-of-state law enforcement agencies. The Merced Police Department said in April that an internal review found earlier system configurations allowed data sharing with certain federal agencies, and that it disabled the identified connections. The allegations have not been proven.
