AI Picks Who Gets Laid Off... In the US, It's Spilling Into Gender Discrimination Lawsuits - finance.biggo.com
A Brookings Institution report found that of roughly 6.1 million American workers at high risk of losing their jobs to AI and facing difficulty moving into other fields, 86% are women. Occupations where women make up over 90% of the workforce, such as secretarial and administrative support and reception roles, were classed as high risk. Separately, 26 current and former Meta employees sued the company alleging it used AI to select layoff targets, discriminating against those who had taken parental or caregiving leave. The complaint says AI usage history and computer keystroke counts were among the selection criteria.
