A STAT investigation reported that UnitedHealth Group pressed medical staff to cut off rehabilitation payments for seriously ill Medicare Advantage patients in line with an algorithm's predicted length of stay. According to internal documents, its NaviHealth subsidiary set a 2023 target of keeping stays within 1% of the days projected, and former employees said missing it risked discipline, including possible termination. UnitedHealth says the algorithm is merely a guidepost.
