Tesla Autopilot crash kills driver in Fontana, California
On 5 May 2021, a Tesla Model 3 operating on Autopilot struck an overturned truck on a freeway in Fontana, California, killing the driver, Steven Hendrickson, aged 35, and seriously injuring another man who was helping the truck driver. The driver had previously posted videos of himself driving without hands on the wheel. The crash is under investigation by the NHTSA, which has investigated 29 other Tesla crashes. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
