A prosecutor in the Nevada County District Attorney's Office used artificial intelligence to prepare a court filing, which then contained inaccurate legal citations. In October the Civil Rights Corps petitioned the California Supreme Court seeking sanctions against the office, after an earlier petition was denied in the Third Appellate District. The California Public Defenders Association filed an amicus letter supporting the petition. District Attorney Jesse Wilson declined an interview but said AI "remains an evolving technology with significant limitations, including the potential to generate inaccurate or hallucinated citations".
