European MPs tricked by deepfake calls imitating Russian opposition
Several European MPs were approached by callers using deepfake technology to impersonate Russian opposition figures like Leonid Volkov. The calls appeared to be video conferences with the politician, but were actually fake. The MPs, including Latvia's Rihards Kols and UK's Tom Tugendhat, realised they had been deceived. The Russian pranksters known as Vovan and Lexus are suspected, but they deny using filters.
