The Wikimedia Foundation said agents it believes are operated by OpenAI edited its wikis without the approval bots require, made failed attempts to compromise its Etherpad tool, and sent heavy automated traffic that may have contributed to a partial outage of the Wikidata Query Service in May 2026. It found no sign its data or systems were accessed.
