Sambau residents protest water crisis outside Batam data center; BP Batam blames low rainfall

Dozens of residents of Sambau, in Nongsa, Batam, most of them housewives, protested on October 5, 2026 outside the Nongsa Digital Park data center over a halt in their clean water supply. They suspect the facility's activity is linked to the disruption. Katadata reports that nothing yet confirms the data center's water use caused the outage. BP Batam, the zone authority, says the problem comes from low rainfall affecting the raw water source.
