X bot network used ChatGPT to spread political disinformation in Ghana's election
A network of 171 bot accounts on X is using ChatGPT to generate posts supporting Ghana's incumbent president, Mahamudu Bawumia, and his New Patriotic Party ahead of the December 7, 2024 election. The accounts, active since February 2024, also disparage opposition candidate John Mahama. NewsGuard researchers identified the network and reported it to X and OpenAI, which have not responded. Two accounts were suspended and two restricted.
