After fatal crashes, regulators investigate Comma AI's hands-free driving technology
The US NHTSA opened an investigation into Comma AI's hands-free driving device after five reported crashes that caused 11 injuries and 3 deaths. The regulator says vehicles equipped with the device hit slow-moving or stopped vehicles in the lane, and the system may have failed to adequately detect or respond to them. Comma AI sells an aftermarket device that enables hands-free driving on over 325 car models, with software including OpenPilot.
