AlgorithmWatch found that Google Vision Cloud labeled an image of a dark-skinned person holding a thermometer "gun," while a similar image of a light-skinned person was labeled "electronic device." Google called the result unacceptable and apologized, and said it had adjusted confidence scores after finding some objects were mislabeled as firearms across a range of skin tones. Google said it found no evidence of systemic bias related to skin tone.
