Meta faces historic US lawsuit over allegations of making children addicted to social media
A US federal court on August 18 began hearing a lawsuit filed by a coalition of 29 states against Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. The states allege Meta deliberately designed its platforms to be addictive and exploited young users. The lawsuit could result in fines of up to hundreds of billions of dollars and require significant changes to how Meta operates.
