Waymo's co-chief executive argued publicly that camera-only autonomous driving is a dead end, without naming Tesla. Waymo runs about half a million fully driverless paid rides a week across 15 cities with no safety monitors, while Tesla's Austin robotaxi service logged 14 crashes in roughly 800,000 miles with a paid human still sitting in the front seat, a crash every 57,000 miles.
