On August 19, a rear-end collision on Highway 1 left two drivers standing between their vehicles in the inner lane without safety measures; a third car using driver assistance then struck them, causing three deaths and three injuries. The Freeway Bureau warned drivers to move to safety after an accident and never stand in the 'leg-breaking zone' between vehicles.
