Tesla crashes into California fire truck; NHTSA investigates Autopilot and FSD
On 18 February 2023, a Tesla struck a fire truck that was blocking lanes on Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County, California. The driver died at the scene, the passenger was taken to hospital, and four firefighters were transported for evaluation. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has asked Tesla for information and is investigating whether Autopilot or Full Self-Driving beta was engaged at the time.
