Facebook settles with content moderators for $52 million over PTSD
Facebook agreed to pay $52 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by more than 10,000 content moderators who suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from viewing graphic and disturbing posts. The moderators, employed by contractors, reviewed content flagged by Facebook's automated systems. The settlement provides cash payments and medical coverage for those diagnosed with psychological conditions. Facebook admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to provide mental health counseling.
