Millions use Telegram AI bots to create nonconsensual deepfake images
WIRED identified at least 50 Telegram bots claiming to create explicit deepfake images by 'removing clothes' from photos. The bots list over 4 million monthly users combined, with 14 having over 100,000 members each. After WIRED contacted Telegram, the company deleted 75 bots and channels, though new ones quickly appeared. The tool is primarily used to target women and girls, causing psychological trauma and humiliation.
