Deepfakes used as weapons of disinformation in Sudan's war

Since the outbreak of conflict in Sudan, AI-generated deepfakes have been widely used on social media to spread disinformation. Fake images, videos and audio recordings have been created to impersonate political figures, spread false claims of atrocities and cast doubt on authentic evidence. Fact-checking organisations and activists are struggling to combat the trend, which threatens to incite violence and erode trust in information.
