The complaint alleges that Bradley University required undergraduates to use the Respondus Monitor proctoring tool for remote exams in the fall 2020 semester. The court's summary of the complaint says the tool uses an artificial intelligence engine that analyzes each exam session through facial detection, motion and lighting, and captures students' facial geometry and other biometric identifiers from their webcams. The plaintiffs allege this violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. In March 2022 the federal court granted the university's motion to dismiss three of the four claims and sent the remaining claim back to state court.
