The Electronic Privacy Information Center filed an FTC complaint alleging that Thomson Reuters' Fraud Detect, AI-powered software used by 42 state governments to predict fraudulent benefit applications, frequently points to fraud where none exists. The complaint says the tool flagged 1.1 million California unemployment claims as suspicious, more than half of them legitimate, leading to over 600,000 people having benefits suspended. The allegations have not been proven.
