A California administrative law judge ruled in December 2025 that Tesla falsely advertised its cars' self-driving capabilities with the terms "Autopilot" and "Full Self-Driving," which the DMV said misleadingly suggested the cars could operate autonomously; the DMV asked Tesla to change its marketing rather than suspend its licenses. In a complaint dated Feb. 13, 2026, Tesla sued the DMV to reverse the ruling, alleging the agency "wrongfully and baselessly" labeled it a false advertiser.
