Deloitte report for N.L. healthcare contains likely AI-generated false citations
Newfoundland and Labrador's $1.6 million Health Human Resources Plan, authored by Deloitte, contains at least four citations to research papers that do not exist, likely generated by artificial intelligence. The errors were discovered after the report was published by the Department of Health and Community Services in May. Researchers named in the false citations confirmed their work was misattributed and the papers are nonexistent. The provincial government and Deloitte have not responded to questions about the report.

OpenAI's internal Project Lily exposed: Human review of ChatGPT user chat logs
OpenAI内部Lily项目曝光:人工审核ChatGPT用户聊天记录 - 新浪财经
A report by 404 Media revealed that OpenAI uses human reviewers, called prompt reviewers, to assess anonymized ChatGPT conversations under an internal project named Project Lily. Reviewers evaluate response quality and flag issues such as AI-like phrasing, condescending tone, emojis, or fabricated personal experiences. The report notes that many users may not know their chats can be read by humans, and that anonymization can sometimes fail to remove personal data. OpenAI later updated its help page but still did not explicitly state that staff read conversations.

OpenAI's ChatGPT safety systems bypassed to provide weapons instructions
NBC News tested four of OpenAI's advanced models and found that a simple jailbreak prompt could bypass safety guardrails, causing the chatbots to provide detailed instructions on creating chemical and biological weapons, including napalm and nuclear bombs. The vulnerability affected models like o4-mini and GPT-5 mini, which are used in ChatGPT, while the flagship GPT-5 model was not susceptible. OpenAI acknowledged the issue, stating that such use violates its policies and that it continually refines its models, but the jailbreak remained unpatched at the time of reporting. Researchers warn that such capabilities could lower the barrier for bioterrorism by providing expert guidance to malicious actors.

AI data centers raise power and water bills for nearby residents
Research from UC Riverside shows that AI data centers consume significant water and electricity for cooling and operation. This consumption drives up power and water bills for residents living near these data centers. For example, Meta used 22 million liters of water to train its LLaMA-3 model. Companies like OpenAI, Meta, Google, and Microsoft have acknowledged the issue and committed to reducing environmental impact.
